Audi R8 Driving - Experience the Perfect Driving Gift

For many years, when people talked about supercars, Audi was not the first name that came up in conversation. However, in 2006 this all changed with the launch of the Audi R8. A mid engined 4.2 litre V8 supercar that changed the way many people think about Audi. The only problem for the average motorist is the price, at just under £100,000, the Audi R8 is well out of the range for most. Or is it? With an Audi R8 driving experience just about anyone can experience the ultimate German supercar without breaking the bank.
The Car
With a history of racing in the Le Mans 24 hours, it still came as a bit of a surprise when Audi announced the release of the R8 in 2006. Powered by a 4.2 litre, 32 valve V8 and utilising Audi's Quattro system, the R8 is an outstanding drive. With 414 bhp, the Audi R8 powers from 0 - 60 mph in a meagre 4.4 seconds and if you keep your foot planted firmly on the floor it will eventually top out at 187 mph. It may not be the fastest supercar in the world, but that hasn't stopped the plaudits coming in, many have hailed the R8 as a match for the Porsche 997 (praise indeed) and What Car? awarded the R8 the coveted performance car of the year in 2010. Light, fiercely powerful and with a superb handling system, the R8 has quickly become one of the most sought after Supercars in the world today.
Making the most of the Audi R8
Driving experiences are generally held at one of two venues, either a race circuit or on an aerodrome. Whilst the aerodrome option offers the chance to dive the R8 fast, the racing circuit is where the R8 comes to life. With a true racing pedigree and that fantastic four wheel drive system the R8 will leave you grinning from ear to ear every time you push the accelerator. Hairpin bends and chicanes will cause the driver no problems, get on the straights, push your foot down and the R8 growls as it eats up the tarmac beneath you.
The Driving Experience
When you arrive at the circuit there is a 15 minute safety briefing to explain exactly what the driving experience will involve. With the briefing completed it's off to the circuit where a qualified racing driver will show you the lines in an Alfa Romeo Giulietta or a MINI Cooper S, showing you how to get the very best out of your Audi R8 Experience. With the familiarisation laps completed it's time to jump into the Audi R8 for the drive of your life. For the next six miles the professional instructor will be by your side, pointing out the lines, when to push, when to brake. The Audi R8 driving experience will leave you wanting more for hours after.
If the audi R8 isn't for you then driving experience companies offer a huge range of supercars for you to drive, from Italian thoroughbreds such as the Ferrari 360 or the Lamborghini Gallardo to the unbelievable Arial Atom, there is sure to be a supercar to suit your individual needs.

The All New Audi R8 E-Tron Concept Car

With the Frankfurt motor show's press days underway, Audi revealed a technical study that examines what its R8 sports car might be like if powered by four powerful electric motors. The answer is E-Tron. The four motors fitted under the hood produce a modest 313 horse power but an astronomical 3,319 pound-feet of torque. Isn't it amazing!
The total torque produced does not come at once. Such a quantity of twisting force usually found in the M47 Patton tank would turn all the tires into rubber vapor at the first throttle. The E-Tron is equipped with an electronic version of torque-vectoring system that is found in some of the Audi cars which are already on the road. This electronic version distributes the required torque to each wheel as needed to maximize traction the cornering ability. As Audi says it takes 4.8 seconds to get to 100 Km/h (62 Mph) from 0. This may not be termed as spectacular when compared with other super-cars. But once the rolling sets to go, the plot quickens - 37 Mph to 75 Mph in just 4.1 seconds, the extra torque stepping into defeat the mountain forces of friction and the resistance by wind.
Top speed has been clocked for 127 miles per hour. This may not be of much service when it comes to long trips, considering its range of 154 miles. The total energy content of the liquid-cooled batteries is roughly 53 kilowatt hours, with a usable portion restricted to 42.4 kilowatt hour, to increase the life of battery service. The weight distribution was managed properly and is very close to that of a gasoline powered R8. The heavy battery pack has been mounted behind the passenger cabin to optimize the center of gravity and axle load distribution, giving the car a front/rear weight loading of 42/58. A specialized thermal management system has been installed which controls the temperature of the driving system, power electronics, battery and the interior climatic control. A heat pump is also installed to warm up the interior in case of unavailability of waste heat from the electrical system.
The Audi E-Tron concept's interior takes advantage of the lack of a traditional drive train encroaching on space; designers created a slim center tunnel and console with a flush gear selector
The Audi R8 E-Tron also communicates with its surroundings. Yes, that's right. E-Tron showcases of something Audi calls as "Car-to-x-communication". It's a prototype for an information-processing system that networks the E-Tron to other cars and its surroundings by way of transmitting devices. Such a system can help reduce accidents, minimize roadway congestion and open up new convenience functions like finding a parking space in a crowded parking lot. Like most concept cars, Audi has no plans to build the E-Tron as on a whole, say a competitor to the Tesla Roadster, though expect to see some of the technology and design cues show up in other vehicles. The parking system would be the hottest feature.
